Noise

Take a look at this website.  Gallup Polls   This is the Gallup website which keeps track of the polls that you are hearing about constantly through the news media.  I am puzzled when I look at this site.  Here is why.

Polls are considered to be samples of reality.  Gallup cannot and does not ask everybody what they think.  They ask what is called a "random sample" of people what they think and then assume that the sample represents everybody.  They know that there is a possiblilty that they have asked , by chance, a group of people that are not representative.

The polls on the page I have directed you to shows a simple message if you understand poll results in terms of what is called sampling error.  A typical Gallup poll has an error range of plus or minus 3 percent.that means that the number they have published is only accurate within a range of 6 percentage points.

With that in mind it looks from the polls that things have not changed much at all for a long time.  Edwards support has gone mostly to Obama and once that happened Hillary and Obama have been pretty much even.  Same when you compare one or the other to McCain.

Its a dead heat, gang.  Nobody is a frontrunner.  It would seem that we need to wait for someone to make a big, really big, boo boo.  That's the way it is these days.  For whatever reason (and it may be our prepensity for polls) we have reduced our politicians to the lowest common denominator.  They all seem to move toward the center.  They all are looking for the "swing" vote.

Like I said, that's the way it is!

Yuk.

06 April 08 - 09:09How to Move On

Texas Workforce CommisionTWC means Texas Workforce Commision. They are the beaurocrats that control your unemployment benefits. Let's look at a scenario.

For whatever reason you decide it is time to move away from your current job. It is your decision to move on, but you feel you should give notice.  Usually it is considered a courtesy.  Well, don't do it.  You can be screwed.

Let's assume that you have a position where you feel obligated to give advance notice to allow your employer to plan. In deference to this (erroneous) belief, you tell your employer that you intend to move on, and express the time frame.

Sounds reasonable, doesn't it. The right thing to do? Maybe you have been working on a project important to the employer and you want to protect the progress. You owe it to them, correct? Well think again.

What might now happen to you? Here is the condensed version.

You indicate your intentions, your employer says to you, I'll accept your resignation right now, no notice necessary. Then as you leave, carefully making sure the door doesn't hit you in the ass as you go, you consider filing for Texas unemployment benefits. Forget it.

You, by being honest and honorable have just created a bad situation for yourself. If challenged by your former employer, the TWC (Texas Workforce Commision) is compelled BY LAW to ensure you do not get benefits. Why? You resigned and your employer simply changed the effective date to be more convenient to the company. You will be told, you sorry bastard, that you have resigned so you are not eligible for benefits.

Is there a solution? Yes there is. Deception, and I recommend it.  Here is one possible way to protect yourself in Texas.

1) Check on your accrued vacation. It is best to do this with your check stub. Do not give your employer any inclination of what you intend to do. The law in Texas requires you to be devious.

2) Start looking for another job.

3) Find the job and set a start date which will allow you to leisurely move into the new position.

4) Use your vacation time and sick time, if available at the soon to be former employer.

5) On the day you receive your last paycheck for sick and vacation time, move on to the new job.

6) Do not bother to resign, let the previous employer wonder why you are not coming to work.

7) When they call to find out, tell them you are at a new job.

I learned this the hard way. In Texas, the workforce commision does not reward honesty or integrity. I suggest you look out for numero uno. Follow my seven simple steps and save yourself financial problems assiciated with anything that might happen due to your former employers actions.

Do what you need to do!

Later!

04 April 08 - 16:19Can you see me now?

What a weekend!!MAN AND WIFE

A man left from work one Friday afternoon. But, instead of going home, he stayed out the entire week-end hunting with the boys and spending his entire paycheck. When he finally appeared at home, Sunday night, he was confronted by his very angry wife and was barraged for nearly two hours with a tirade of his actions.

Finally his wife stopped the nagging and simply said to him. "How would you like it if you didn't see me for two or three days?"

To which he replied: "Are you kiddin me? That would be GREAT!!"

Monday went by and he didn't see his wife.

Didn't see her Tuesday, either.

Wednesday came and went with the same results.

Finally on Thursday, the swelling went down just enough where he could see her a little out of the corner of his left eye.
