16 February 09 - 23:52Wife from Hell

Have a drink!!Jerry sometimes sends a funny one.  This one is a pretty good one.  If you have already heard it, just quit reading and move on.  I happen to think it's pretty funny.

WIFE FROM HELL (This is a joke, son.)

A police officer pulls over a speeding car. The officer says, ' I clocked you at 80 miles per hour, sir.'

The driver says, 'Gee, officer I had it on cruise control at 60, perhaps your radar gun needs calibrating.'

Not looking up from her knitting the wife says: 'Now don't be silly dear, you know that this car doesn't have cruise control.'

As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks over at his wife and growls, 'Can't you please keep your mouth shut for once?'

The wife smiles demurely and says, 'You should be thankful your radar detector went off when it did.'

As the officer makes out a second ticket for the illegal radar detector unit fitted in the car he had just pulled over, the man glowers at his wife and says through clenched teeth, 'Damit, woman, can't you keep your mouth shut?'

The officer frowns and says, 'And I notice that you're not wearing your seat belt, sir. That's an automatic $75 fine.'

The driver says, 'Yeah, well, you see officer, I had it on, but took it off when you pulled me over so that I could get my license out of my back pocket.'

The wife says, 'Now, dear, you know very well that you didn't have your seat belt on. You never wear your seat belt when you're driving.'

And as the police officer is writing out the third ticket the driver turns to his wife and barks, 'WHY DON'T YOU PLEASE SHUT UP??'

The officer looks over at the woman and asks, 'Does your husband always talk to you this way, Ma'am?'

You're gonna love this part........... :

'Only when he's been drinking.'

07 February 09 - 00:06My relatives don't seem to count

Not good.....More from the land of Obama.....

***************************************

"REUTERS UK (uk.reuters.com)

By Jane Sutton and Andrew Gray

MIAMI/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The judge overseeing U.S. war crimes court at Guantanamo on Thursday dismissed the charges against a Saudi prisoner accused of plotting the bombing of the Navy warship USS Cole, the Pentagon said.

The move avoided a showdown between the U.S. military and President Barack Obama. It cancelled a hearing that had been set for Monday in the Guantanamo war crimes court, despite the fact Obama had ordered a freeze in proceedings there...."

*****************************************

This strikes home.  In case you don't remember or are too young to have experienced this event, seventeen sailors were killed and thirty nine others were injured in the blast.  Our citizens were dead and injured.

This judge is doing what he feels Obama wants.  My Mom always said that actions speak louder than words.  This is the message Obama is sending.  It sickens me.

My nephew, a fine young man was scheduled to be on that ship, but due to happenstance he did not make it.  This is my only nephew and he could have been among the dead or injured, and my new commander in chief seems to be more in tune with the issues of our foreign image with, ahem, Muslims than he is with our own.  This bothers me.

Anyway, I am proud of the service Jason gave to our country in the Navy along with his comrades of that time.  Even the man of change cannot change my respect for our men in uniform.

Please note that the article states that Obama ordered a freeze on proceedings.  This judge knows the score, Obama is running around like a grade school sissy saying that he is the winner and he must be listened to.  I always thought that the respect was earned, not pointed out.

05 February 09 - 23:12Obama's Idea of Stimulus

Barack (Robin Hood) Obama has some pretty scary ideas.Obama quote: "We can't delay and we can't go back to the same worn-out ideas that led us here in the first place,  Let me be clear, those ideas have been tested, and they have failed."

This is the scariest statement I have heard from a president in my lifetime.  If the man thinks this is true he is a threat to our country, if he is lying, he is a threat to our country.  First and formost this statement is false.  Lower taxes are not what "led us here in the first place".  Bonuses for business executives did not lead us here either.

Obama talks of tinkering with the economy and his disdain for it.  As far as I see it there are three options for an economy (I learned this in high school, it is not difficult to figure out):

Option 1) Laissez faire economy - The term is a French phrase and means (literally) “allow to do”.  This is total freedom in the marketplace (by marketplace I mean anywhere business occurs, not only the stock markets).  Those who believe in this policy believe that marketplace events should be allowed to take their own course.  Supply and demand.  You and everyone else is free to do as you please.  Freedom is the major central theme of the American revolution.  We do not have this.  What we have is the next option, "mixed economy."

Option 2) Mixed economy - This term refers to an economy that allows a good amount of marketplace driven business events to occur, but with restaints and controls.  The controls might be things like OSHA which limits the supply and demand of the workplace by saying it is not OK to be unsafe in the name of enterprise.  Another is the EPA which limits the damage we are allowed to do to our environment in persuit of financial gain.  There are safety nets for the unfortunate and unlucky, as well as the lazy and the stupid in the form of welfare programs.  Pretty much anything that limits your ability to make a buck by defining what is and what is not legal in this persuit.

Option 3) Communist (fully socialist) economy - In a totally socialist form of economy, all aspects of an economy are controlled by the government.  Everything in the realm that could be considered the economy is planned and controlled by planners and politicians.

These are economic models and have nothing to do with being a democracy or a republic.  Those terms refer to the type of government.  A democracy is a state or country that is controlled by the people through voting or similar means.  A republic is a state or country that is not led by a hereditary monarch.  A theocracy is a government run by religion based methods.  An autocracy is run by a dictator.

The "economy" is defined as the limits to the freedom you have to make things better for yourself.  The governance models describe the ways government is structured.

You could have a government that is a theocracy (run by a religious group) that believes in a Laissez faire economy, or a king that allows a mised economy.  Unfortunately you can have a communist economy in a democracy.  This would be the Obama way.  Being honest and etical seems to be less important to Obama than I originally had thought.  His understanding of freedom is extremely limited, especially it would seem, for a black man who studies Abraham Lincoln.

If you didn't get this the first time, just read it again.  It will grow on you how these things fit.  Hell, send a copy to Obama, he could use the information!

BTW, that's our money in the picture.  And, yes, I am in favor of tinkering.  I saw communism early in life from the outside looking in and it is not a good way to go, youngsters.

01 February 09 - 22:36What's in a Name? Stimulus or something else.

The new chief.I finally got tired of listening to the politicians endlessly yapping about the stimulus package and how it is good or bad, right or left, wrong or right, or whatever.  My antenna went up when there was a completely partisan vote in the House.  Although I was now extremely curious, I was not compelled to look into it until I heard Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison quietly answer David Gregory on "Meet the Press" today that she could not vote for the bill in the senate.  She would not even vote for it after changes to make the bill "more favorable to Republicans."

What is in this thing?

I spent a couple of hours looking through the summary today and transcribed it into an Excel spreadsheet which you can download by clicking on the icon.

House Stimulus Summary  StimulusPlan.xls

I am not at all commenting on the individual components except to say, this is NOT a stimulus plan. It is nothing even close.  Again, I am not challenging the veracity of the components. only disagreeing with calling them a stimulus package.

In some cases it is unclear if this is just common legislation, housekeeping, social programs, or what.  Take a look at it yourself.  In some instances I see a glimmer of stimulus, but the bill does not go the distance.  Look for these instances where there are billions in alleged projects "ready to go," but the bill does not go for the entire package.  In many cases it is a small percentage.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.  To say the house democrats have been fooled would be a kind.  To say they are being disingenuous would be a lie in itself.  This is deception and manipulation on a political scale I have never before seen.

Uncharted waters?  I'll say.
